Tarot Cards as a Tool for Personal Growth

Can tarot and oracle cards really be a personal-growth tool? Aren’t they just for psychics and mediums who are trying to contact the spirit world and predict the future? Nope! They can definitely be a self-healing and self-growth tool!

How can this be?  Your old trusted pal “intuition,” that’s how.

Your intuition is your personal compass, your gut instinct, your sidekick, your own personal safe-o-meter.

The actual dictionary definition of intuition is “the ability to understand something immediately, without the need for conscious reasoning.” This means that you know it is true; you don’t need a boatload of research to validate it. You just know. There are quite a few studies online you can find that prove just how real and useful it is in our day to day lives.

Tarot and oracle cards have many different symbols, colors, depictions in the artwork. There are so many differently created visually appealing decks out there that one is sure to resonate with you if this is something you would like to try.

So, how do you do it? How do you turn something that’s been widely acclaimed as a metaphysical spiritual deck of cards into a real emotional healing and self-growth tool? What you need to complete this exercise; a deck of tarot or oracle cards (if you don’t have any cards check out http://www.tarotgoddess.com/tarot/oracle.html or any other reputable tarot or oracle card site online to pick a free card), a pen, and a journal or piece of paper.

Set the intention. Set the intention that you want to connect with your emotions. For example if you are feeling like you have been in a total funk lately and you want to get out of it but you aren’t sure what is holding you back, set the intention that you want to intuitively find out what’s preventing you from moving forward. Another great example is, “What do I feel my next step in life is? What direction do I intuitively feel I should go?”

Shuffle the Deck and Intuitively Pick a Card. Quiet your mind and your ego, find a spot to do this exercise with minimal or no distractions. Shuffle away and pick a card.

Observe the Card. Allow your intuition to take over.Take a minute and write down each detail that stands out whether that be the colors, a certain symbol or image within the image, or emotion you immediately felt from the card as a whole.

Write. Now that you’ve written down all the things that really stood out to you, take some time to write down the very first association or feeling you felt when you saw that particular image, color, etc. The first immediate thoughts that pop out are from your intuition. Really allow yourself to feel all the emotions that come to you, acknowledge them, and make sure you write them down.

Connect the Dots. How do all the things you wrote down tie together for your particular situation? Does it give you clarity for yourself? How can the things you wrote down be applied to your life to benefit and enrich it?

Don’t worry if you feel you don’t get anything at first, as with all new techniques and self-growth tools sometimes it can take a few tries before you can really connect with your soul using this method. I can almost guarantee that if you stick with it though, you will be glad you started.
